How the comparison works
Both texts are split into lines and compared with a longest-common-subsequence algorithm, the same idea behind diff and git diff. Lines that appear in both, in the same order, are unchanged. Everything else is shown as removed (-, from the original) or added (+, in the changed text).
Tips
- Turn on ignore whitespace when one side was re-indented or has trailing spaces.
- Show changes only keeps three lines of context around each change, like a unified diff.
- The copy button gives you a unified diff you can paste into a code review or ticket.
FAQ
Is my text uploaded?
No. Both texts stay in your browser and the diff is computed with JavaScript on your device.
How big can the texts be?
Several thousand lines per side works well on a laptop. Very large files are better compared with git diff or a desktop tool.
